THE BATTLEGROUND OF HOPE!

March 2, 2018

THE BATTLEGROUND OF HOPE! There are people and things and circumstances that will strive to kill our hope in Christ. Satan does not want us to be people of hope. Satan wants us to be in depression and despair so that he can offer us a counterfeit option to the hope we should have in Christ. Some people in our society today are trying to make us people of despair so they can sell us their pathway to hope.  Commercials abound on TV to show us ways out of our hopeless circumstances and give us hope. They offer everything from drugs to financial systems. Others try to sell us on changing relationships or obtaining things. Credit card companies tell us the way out of our depression is to spend, spend, spend and be hopeful again which in the long run leads to more hopelessness.

When you are a person of hope, properly obtained through your relationship with Jesus Christ, you wear a target not only on your back but on your front as well. Satan is out to change your hope to despair and your cheerfulness to pessimism. And he will attack you on at least three fronts: through people, through your relationship with God, and through circumstances.  When things do not seem to be going right in your life there are always people like the people King David experienced in his life when things were not going particularly well who not so subtly said, “Where is thy God?” (Psalm 42:3,10 ASV). These people seemed to be taunting or mocking David. Their descendants seem to be among us today.

There are encouragers in life who we love but there are also discouragers in life who seem to strive to rob you of hope in the Lord and His ability to care for you and help you in any situation. Satan will see that those people show up at just the right time to try and rob you of hope. But remember our hope is in Jesus, our living hope, our blessed hope, our hope of glory and though we don’t always “feel” His presence or “see” His presence the Holy Spirit is there with us, in us, and ministering to us. Jesus said, “He would never leave us or forsake us” (Hebrews 13:5 NIV). It is at a time like this, when people seem to be of no help but rather a hindrance that we need to react and cry out as David did, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance” (Psalm 42:5 ASV). People, through Satan’s help, can ignite a real battle for us in standing firm in the hope we have in Jesus Christ. But, “the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4 NIV). Keep being full of hope!
