MEET WONDER WOMAN IN PERSON! At some point in my life I discovered I was living with Wonder Woman. “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies” (Proverbs 31:10 NIV). You must read all of Proverbs 31! Really, I encourage you to do it now please. It must have been hard 3000 years ago to find a good wife. Things haven’t changed much in 3000 years. The verses that follow verse ten in this chapter describe what a wife of noble character is like and I think it is a perfect description of a Christian “Wonder Woman.” Any woman demonstrating all these characteristics would be a wonder indeed but they are certainly characteristics every woman should strive to possess. Look at the qualities of a Godly woman she exhibits in Proverbs 31.
This lady is respectful of her husband and in turn receives respect from her husband (v.11-12) and she also is nurturing of her children (v.26-28) which produces praise from her husband and children. The Proverbs 31 woman also manifests a servant attitude in ministering to her husband, family, people who work for her and even the poor and needy she comes in contact with (v.12, 15, 20). And she appears to be very conscious of what her family eats (v.14-16). This lady is business smart, thrifty and industrious (v.13-16, 24, 31). She is also very hospitable in her approach to her home and people in general (v.15,20,17). This lady could also write a book on time management (v.13,19,27). I get tired just reading and writing about her let alone trying to keep up with her.
Let me conclude by saying that the Proverbs 31 woman is a faithful woman (v.26,29) and she is a beautiful woman inside and out ((v.10,21-22,24-25,30). God’s ultimate opinion of her is this, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate” (v.30-31). I cannot imagine a man who would not love, cherish and care for a woman like this. This lady is an example of a godly woman for all Christian women to model after. In our generation most non-Christian women would rebel at what God’s Word says about a godly woman and would laugh and call a woman foolish for even attempting to model after the Proverbs 31 woman. But God’s opinion of womanhood is really what matters and true godly womanhood is marked by progress on a pathway of growth in life achievement not an instantaneous transformation into a Proverbs 31 woman. All Christian women should strive to become Proverbs 31 women while recognizing their accomplishments and also the areas of life that still need transformation. Who knows; maybe the Christian men who surround the Christian women will also be challenged to match up to God’s standard for them. Ladies we salute you for “fearing the Lord and becoming like Him.” You deserve our praise.
