LET’S CELEBRATE! Today is one of the greatest days of the year. Today my family celebrates an event that has had very important implications for all the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren descended from Millie and me. Today is my wife Millie’s birthday! We will not go into the long history of Millie’s birthdays except to say her birthday celebrations seem to last for at least a week, beginning days before and sometimes going for days afterward. And Millie is not too shy to let you know in advance that her birthday is approaching. And I noticed on Facebook recently that now my daughter is promoting her mother’s birthday. So let’s celebrate! After all Millie is a wonderful person and I think definitely one of a kind and that is a good thing. As the biblical writer said, “However many years anyone may live, let them enjoy them all.” (Ecclesiastes 11:8 NIV)
This past year Millie and I moved from Panama City Beach, FL to Delray Beach, FL (near West Palm Beach) so we are close to our two grandsons, a granddaughter, a great granddaughter and her mother, our son, and our son-in-law’s mother. So tonight we are going to party; how could we not? Millie deserves it and my life is in danger if we don’t. We look forward to a great evening together with a meal and of course cake and ice cream. My son is standing by with an extinguisher in case the flames from the candles get out of hand. This year we had to get a larger cake to contain all the candles. And we have invited our wonderful new neighbors in to celebrate with us so they don’t call the police about all the noise or report a fire from all the smoke rising from the candles.
Seriously now, Millie is a great person and we all love her. And in case you are wondering she approved this post or else I would be suffering serious consequences. A few years ago when Mille suffered two strokes we weren’t sure what the future would be like. But we are thankful for God’s provision in sparing Millie’s life and allowing Millie to continue to share life with us. Things in life have changed but she is doing well and continues to work through physical issues and looks as beautiful as ever outwardly and inwardly. We are celebrating Millie’s birthday today and you can celebrate with us by posting on her Facebook page. But beyond that we encourage you to celebrate all of life’s special times as they occur with your family and friends. In the last few years our extended family has been reminded time and again that life is short and uncertain and that we need to take time to celebrate God’s grace and each other at every opportunity. “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV) So let’s celebrate!
