MERRY CHRISTMAS! IT IS GIFT TIME! You will not receive a better gift today than what God has already purchased for you. It is yours. It is free. You only need to unwrap it and God will help you to do that. A few weeks before Christmas gifts began to arrive at my door and I had received explicit instructions that they were not to be opened until Christmas day because some do not belong to me as they are for other people. So we waited and we waited. Now these people probably didn’t even know I had their gifts just waiting for them. And I wasn’t sure what was in the packages. Nor was I sure any of those gifts were for me.
I sure am glad God doesn’t treat us like that with His gifts and believe me that is not a put down of the one who was sending the gifts to my house. God has great things in store for His children. He doesn’t hold His gifts back that He wants us to have in our lifetime and say well maybe this is for you and maybe it isn’t. I sure am glad that when God sent His Son as a gift to the world that He didn’t leave me in doubt as to whether Jesus was coming as a gift to me or if Jesus was sent as a gift to someone else. I sure am glad God unwrapped my gift and presented it to me because as dumb as I am I would probably have lost it in the Christmas wrappings (hence the warning not to touch the gifts sent to me). God said quite clearly in His Word, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23 NIV) There you have it, Christmas is a celebration of the greatest gift ever given…God’s Son the Lord Jesus Christ…who gives us as a gift eternal life. And I know the gift is intended for me because God also said, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13 NIV) And I am an “everyone” who has called on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and I am saved. How about you?
I didn’t have to pay a thing for God’s gift of eternal life through the Lord Jesus Christ. I didn’t have to stand in line or even go on line. I didn’t need cash or a credit card or even Bitcoin (which I don’t understand). No bill is going to come in the mail after Christmas day. I didn’t have to depend on USPS, UPS, FEDEX, or Amazon. God’s gift to me will never wear out, get destroyed or go out of style. I never have to live up to someone else’s standards to receive and keep God’s gift. So I can relax at Christmas. If anyone gives me a gift I can enjoy it whether I know what it is or not. Whether it fits or not. Whether the color is right or not. Whether I love it or not. Or whether I even receive a gift or not. You see my expectations for Christmas day have already been met in the Lord Jesus Christ and I don’t expect any other gift in the world to match up to what God has already given me. And after all we are celebrating Jesus’ birthday not mine. MERRY CHRISTMAS! IT IS GIFT TIME! Have you received your gift from God?
