TIMING IS EVERYTHING: “But when the set time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.” (Galatians 4:4-5 NIV) God is not bound by human time settings in seconds, minutes, hours, days or years. God is always on time. Never late. Never early. God is always on time. Now sometimes I have wondered about that. Why now? Why not then? Why not later? And sometimes God reveals the answer to those questions and sometimes He doesn’t. But God is always on time. After all at this time in human history God is working in the lives of six billion plus people. And He is always on time. Don’t reflect too much on that today or you won’t get anything else done. Just realize the truth and remember God loves you and is working things out in your life on His time schedule not necessarily the time you have scheduled for God to work.
Timing is everything and when “the set time had fully come” Jesus came into this world and was born as a baby in the manger at Bethlehem. Yes He came on God’s time schedule as God had been preparing the world for His Son. The selected parents were present and society, religion, world events, language, transportation, and a multitude of other things were prepared for the appearance of God’s Son and the proclamation of the gospel that would follow. But most of all “the set time,” the very time appointed by God before the world began had now “fully come.” And Jesus was born.
We should not miss that lesson in our own life. At some time in the past God appointed the time for you and me to be born into this world. And He has appointed a time for us to die (Hebrews 9:27). I am praying for the Rapture myself (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). The bible reminds us, “Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed.’ (Acts 13:36) Sometimes we may think, “If I were only born at a different time then….” We need to remind ourselves that God’s timing is perfect. God has placed us here on earth in this generation. God wants us to serve God’s purpose in our own generation because, in the time frame of human history, this is the only opportunity we will have to serve those who are living in this generation in history with us. We need to make our lives count for God just as David did and just as Jesus did.
So during this Christmas season let us remember that in God’s plan timing is important. Jesus came on God’s timetable and we have arrived on planet earth on God’s time table. Let us minister to our generation and lift the name of Jesus the best way we can at this time of year. There are people around us that need to hear the good news of why Jesus came and what Christmas is really about. And just maybe God placed you in their path at this time in human history to serve them. Sometimes you only get one opportunity and timing really is everything.
