SALUTE TO THE KING: “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.” (1 Timothy 1:17 NIV) What is Christmas celebration if not a salute to the King who came to save us and give us eternal life? In this generation there has a been a renewal of how the public views those serving in the military and how important they are to keeping America safe from those who hate us and would destroy us. We salute them as do most Americans. But who deserves to be saluted more than Jesus our King who came that first Christmas day so that we could be saved from the devil and His intense hatred for God and all who would call on God’s name?
As the troops march in parades and salute the flag representing their country and the leaders over them let us during this Christmas season find ways to show our allegiance to the King of Kings and salute Him as the one who will eventually come with bands of heavenly hosts and begin to rule and reign in this world. As we celebrate the appearance of the Christ child in the humble surroundings of the little city of Bethlehem let us remember that this is truly “the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God.” Jesus is not just one of many religious figures or one of many gods but He is “the only God”, which makes His appearance in a manger in Bethlehem even more remarkable and mysterious. During this Christmas season many religions will be attempting to interpose their beliefs beside the symbols and displays of Christianity and the government it appears is leading the way to assist in this effort and so minimize the beliefs of Christians. But as children of the King we must make every effort, every day, in a special way to lift up the true meaning of Christmas and not defer from the act of saluting the King of Glory who deserves our acknowledgement of Him every day of our lives.
